Niche CMSs: Campus Suite

You are here

A niche content management system for schools, universities and colleges.

Responsive Web Design... (Present, Sir). User-friendliness... (Present, Miss). Explorer Six, stop laughing at the back... (Yes, Sir).

Many schools, colleges and universities may choose a standard content management system, such Joomla! or Drupal for their websites. Sometimes they may prefer something more specialist, encompassing staff/student/parental announcements. Maybe a system which allows its pupils to send coursework or homework assignments electronically.

For over 15 years, Innersync has offered Campus Suite, a content management system designed for educational institutions. The Newport (Kentucky state) based company's CMS is targeted at non-technical users. Primarily teachers, students and ancillary staff less likely to grapple with standard open source or proprietary content management systems. There are three versions of Campus Suite for schools, colleges and enrolment procedures. All three versions are designed to responsive web design principles with cloud storage available.

There is also partner programmes available, scope for parental engagement and social media integration.

Why Choose Campus Suite?

  • Modular: offers scope for photo galleries, teachers' pages, blogs and podcasts;
  • Support: thorough training and support available online - all aimed at pleasing non-techie staff and website administrators;
  • Secure: password protection and permission levels. Cloud based hosting available;
  • Designed for non-technical staff: intuitive user interface designed for widest possible user base within schools or colleges;
  • SEO Friendly: clean Semantic Web coding techniques, search engine friendly URLs and support for blogging facilities;
  • Social Media Integration: modules and sharing facilities available with popular social networking sites;
  • Supports Responsive Web Design: as standard throughout all three versions.

Campus Suite is aimed at the widest possible target audience with a small learning curve. It is designed for any device from the most modest of smartphones, to the school pupil's ageing desktop PC. Teachers can have their own pages, allowing pupils to hand in homework to their tutor(s). Each department can have their own website, either to promote their activities or allow specialist facilities for its pupils. Scope is available for photo galleries which allow schools and colleges to upload pictures from their mobile device, laptop PCs or desktop PCs.

Support is available by means of live and recorded training modules, live online support, telephone, and self-guided resources. Its Support page includes reference to known product issues and Master Agreements. There is also a comprehensive user guide, available for your perusal online. Among its great strengths lie in heuristics; the CMS is designed for any member of staff and its pupils. Add-ons are available for school sports teams and individual athletes, allowing for the publication of school Sports Day results, or inter-school team sports competitions.

So far, Campus Suite is aimed at American schools or colleges, though there are enough features to allow for English and Welsh schools to consider its usage. The School Districts function could potentially be ported to allow use for academies, free schools and LEA provision.
